After the Indian cricket team’s poor performance on the Australia tour, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken strict actions. According to sources, BCCI has implemented new rules for the players to keep their focus on the game and ensure they fulfill their responsibilities more effectively.
New Rules by BCCI
BCCI has decided that from now on, players will be allowed to have their families accompany them on long tours for only 2 weeks. During the Australia tour, players like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah had traveled with their families, while other players traveled on team buses.
Additionally, all players will have to travel on team buses, and if a player’s luggage exceeds 150 kilograms, BCCI will not pay any extra charges. The player will have to bear these expenses themselves.
Family Stay Guidelines
If the duration of the tournament is 45 days or more, the player’s family will be allowed to stay with them for only 14 days. If the tour is shorter, this period can be reduced to 7 days. The family will be allowed to stay for only 2 weeks.
Other Instructions
BCCI has also clarified that Gautam Gambhir’s personal manager will no longer be allowed to travel on the team bus or sit in the VIP box. They will be required to stay in a separate hotel.
Loss on Australia Tour and BCCI’s Response
The Indian team lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia by 1-3. Several controversies arose during the tour, such as Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement, a player attempting to become the interim captain, and Rohit Sharma’s absence from the final match. A lack of team spirit was also observed among the players.
After this loss, BCCI analyzed the team’s situation and decided that no immediate changes were necessary, especially with crucial tournaments like the Champions Trophy just six weeks away.
BCCI’s Future Plan
The objective of these new rules is to improve the team’s performance and focus the players on upcoming competitions. These steps are expected to strengthen Indian cricket and may impact the team’s performance in future tournaments.
